GVMS & GMR Explained
GVMS is used at many UK RoRo locations. A GMR links declaration references and vehicle details so the truck can move through the border process.
When GVMS applies
Many RoRo ports and the Eurotunnel use GVMS.
- GVMS ports require a GMR before arrival
- References must be linked correctly
- Vehicle details must match the movement
What is needed for a GMR
Having inputs ready avoids delays.
- Vehicle registration (and trailer if applicable)
- Declaration MRNs / transit references
- Port and crossing time
- Driver/ops contact details for updates
Common mistakes
These issues are frequent and avoidable.
- Missing references
- Wrong vehicle reg
- Timing mismatches
- Unclear handover between shipper/haulier/broker
